H2 Energy was founded in 2014 with the goal of playing an active role stopping climate change. The decarbonization of our energy system is a massive undertaking and we are proud to work alongside like minded individuals and organizations to make a difference.
Our Principle
We want to make hydrogen from renewable energy a cornerstone of the energy system. This can only succeed if the entire value chain across production, distribution and consumption is expanded sustainably and economically.
H2 Energy optimizes not just one subsystem, but always the entire system. Thanks to this bird’s eye view, we ensure a hydrogen cycle that is aligned with all players and functions as a whole.
What we do
H2 Energy is involved in the entire hydrogen value chain, offering our know-how and engineering along each link. Especially in the realization of hydrogen production plants, the implementation of hydrogen refueling stations and in the engineering of hydrogen fuel cell applications we draw on many years of experience.

2015
Coop as first Customer- H2 Energy receives the order from Coop (major grocery store chain) to build the first green hydrogen ecosystem in Switzerland in order to de-carbonize their logistics operations.
2016
First Swiss green hydrogen ecosystem online- Commissioning of the first commercial 200 kW PEM electrolyzer in Aarau
- Opening of the first public hydrogen refueling station in Hunzenschwil
- Launch of the world’s first heavy duty (34 ton) truck with hydrogen fuel cell electric powertrain
2017 - 2018
International expansion- Operation of green hydrogen ecosystem and founding of H2 Energy AS (Norway) and H2 Energy GmbH (Germany)
- Established H2 Energy Holding AG
2019
Swiss-wide green hydrogen ecosystem partners founded- Founding of Hydrospider AG and order of 2 MW PEM electrolyzer
- Founding of Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility as joint venture between H2 Energy and Hyundai Motor Company to launch HD fuel cell trucks in Europe
2020
Swiss-wide green hydrogen ecosystem online- Commissioning of 2MW PEM electrolyzer in Gösgen
- Import of the first Hyundai XCIENT fuel cell trucks to Switzerland
- Trafigura invest into H2 Energy to expand green hydrogen ecosystems to Europe
2021
Development of European green hydrogen ecosystem kicks-off- Founding of H2 Energy Europe GmbH, joint venture with Trafigura
- Planning phase of 1 GW hydrogen production in Esbjerg Denmark begins
- Launch of kvyreen, the hydrogen powered fast charger for battery electric vehicles
2022
International partnerships- Founding of JET-H2 Energy, joint venture with Philipps 66 to develop HRS network in Europe.
- Founding of H2 Energy Engineering, kft. in Budapest, strengthening H2 Energy’s engineering and manufacturing capabilities.
- Hyundai XCIENT fuel cell truck fleet in Switzerland reaches 5 million km of operation.
2023
First series product launched- Commissioning of 2 MW PEM electrolyzer in Kubel, St. Gallen for customer WPO.
- Launch of kvyreen 80 charger with CE compliance and installation in AVIA Volt public charging network in Saint Gallen.
- Hydrogen ferry concept with DFDS receives ‘Approval in Principle’ from Lloyds Register.
2024
First international distributor and service partner secured- Hyundai XCIENT fuel cell truck fleet in Switzerland surpases 10 million km of operation.
- SMT Network becomes exclusive distributor and service partner for kvyreen products in the Netherlands.
- Certification and handover of hydrogen production Kubel to customer WPO.
